Staff Hardware Systems Engineer

We’re looking for a Staff Hardware Systems Engineer who is ready to define hardware strategy, lead complex system integration efforts, and drive the development of scalable, reliable, and cost effective platforms that power SONIFI solutions. Working onsite at our Sioux Falls office, this is a highly influential engineering role that combines deep technical expertise with cross functional leadership, vendor engagement, and end to end ownership of hardware solutions from concept through production.

What you’ll do:

Reporting to Engineering leadership, this role serves as a senior technical leader responsible for defining and driving hardware architecture strategy across SONIFI’s platform. You will lead the design, validation, and lifecycle management of enterprise hardware solutions while partnering closely with software, networking, systems, product, manufacturing, and operations teams to deliver scalable, reliable, and cost effective platforms. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong engineering judgment, and the ability to influence technical direction across the organization.

• Lead the architecture, integration, and lifecycle management of enterprise hardware platforms, including servers, storage, networking equipment, UPS systems, and embedded technologies

• Drive hardware strategy from concept through production, including component selection, platform standards, BOM ownership, firmware management, and long term lifecycle planning

• Lead system level testing, validation, troubleshooting, and performance optimization efforts while leveraging automation tools to improve engineering efficiency

• Partner with engineering and architecture teams to define infrastructure requirements across on premises, cloud, and hybrid environments

• Provide technical leadership across multiple engineering disciplines by guiding architectural decisions, mentoring engineers, and solving complex technical challenges

• Establish and manage relationships with hardware vendors, suppliers, manufacturers, and design partners to support product quality, scalability, and long term technology planning

• Lead manufacturability, testability, compliance, and certification efforts while ensuring hardware solutions meet business, operational, and regulatory requirements

• Develop and maintain technical standards, architecture documentation, specifications, and validation processes that support long term platform success

What you’ll need:

We’re looking for a highly experienced hardware and systems engineer who combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership skills and the ability to influence technical decisions across the organization.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field and 8+ years of experience in hardware systems engineering, architecture, integration, or validation

• Deep expertise in hardware architecture, enterprise servers, storage, networking technologies, embedded systems, firmware management, and high speed interfaces such as PCIe, USB, and Ethernet

• Strong systems knowledge across Linux and Unix operating systems, networking fundamentals, virtualization technologies, and system level troubleshooting

• Experience using scripting and automation tools such as Python and Bash to support testing, validation, and operational efficiency

• Proven ability to evaluate complex technical tradeoffs, solve challenging engineering problems, and deliver scalable, reliable solutions

• Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across engineering, product, operations, manufacturing, and vendor organizations

Preferred:

• 2+ years in a Staff level or equivalent senior technical leadership role

• Experience navigating UL, CE, and FCC certification processes

• Experience evaluating and specifying enterprise networking hardware

• Experience managing multiple concurrent projects in a fast paced environment

• Familiarity with emerging technologies and AI enabled engineering tools
