Job Description
We are hiring a Staff DevOps Engineer to help evolve our DevOps capabilities into a scalable, secure, and developer-friendly platform. This role is central to modernizing CI/CD, standardizing deployment patterns, and enabling reliable software delivery across a diverse portfolio of products and hybrid environments.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will design and build shared DevOps capabilities, influence standards across teams, and partner closely with Engineering, Security, and Operations to drive an incremental, execution-focused DevOps transformation that balances legacy constraints with modern best practices.
What You’ll Do
DevOps Platform & CI/CD Leadership
- Design, build, and evolve a shared DevOps platform, treating CI/CD, runners, and automation as basic services.
- Own and advance our GitLab CI/CD ecosystem, including group-level pipelines, reusable templates, runner strategy, and execution environments.
- Establish standardized CI/CD patterns that improve reliability, security, and developer experience while allowing flexibility where needed.
Automation, Infrastructure & Cloud
- Design, provision, and operate cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (e.g., CloudFormation).
- Automate operational workflows to reduce manual effort, operational friction, and deployment risk.
- Design secure networking and infrastructure patterns aligned with industry best practices.
- Identify opportunities for performance improvements, scalability, and cost optimization improvements.
Quality, Security & Reliability
- Integrate automated quality and security checks into CI/CD pipelines to enable consistent enforcement of standards.
- Partner with Security to deliver secure-by-default pipelines with minimal developer friction.
- Ensure pipelines and deployed systems are observable through logs, metrics, alerts, and deployment health signals.
- Act as an escalation point for complex issues across systems, networks, and infrastructure across hybrid and AWS cloud environments.
Cross-Team Influence & Enablement
- Serve as a Staff-level technical leader, influencing DevOps standards and architectural direction across teams without direct authority.
- Partner with Engineering Managers, Architects, and Operations to evolve DevOps practices incrementally.
- Lead adoption of standardized DevOps practices across legacy and modern services without disrupting customers.
- Create documentation, reference implementations, and enablement materials to support adoption.
- Mentor engineers and help raise overall DevOps maturity across the organization.
What You’ll Need
Experience & Technical Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science / software engineering or equivalent degree and 6+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, with demonstrated impact at scale.
- Advanced knowledge of Linux and/or cloud computing platforms (AWS preferred) is required.
- Identifies and provides recommendations for enhancing performance, assisting in implementation, and performing infrastructure cost analysis and optimization.
- Hands-on experience designing and operating CI/CD platforms at scale, preferably with GitLab CI/CD.
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code and automated environment provisioning.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, Go, and/or Shell required).
- Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration platforms (ECS, EKS or Kubernetes).
- Proven ability to design, analyze, and troubleshoot large-scale, distributed systems.
