Director Software Engineering

SONIFI Solutions, Inc. is hiring a Director of Software Engineering to lead our growing engineering organization and help shape the future of our core product. In this role, you’ll oversee the development of scalable, high-quality technology solutions that directly support our hospitality customers and their guests. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our product continues to evolve with usability, security, and long-term maintainability in mind. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys building strong teams, improving engineering practices, and delivering impactful software.

This position is located at our Sioux Falls, SD office. Relocation is available for those willing to move to the Sioux Falls area.

We are open to candidates located within the Midwest, such as Minneapolis, Omaha, Denver, Chicago and Kansas City. If hired outside of the Sioux Falls area, there will be an expectation to travel to Sioux Falls on a frequent basis; up to 50% of the time.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
•    Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of engineers and technical leads.
•    Foster a culture of collaboration, and continuous improvement.
•    Drive hiring, onboarding, and career development initiatives.
 
Engineering Strategy & Execution
•    Define and execute engineering strategy aligned with company goals.
•    Oversee the delivery of high-quality, scalable software solutions.
•    Ensure adherence to best practices in architecture, security, and performance.
 
Cross-Functional Collaboration
•    Partner with Product, QA, DevOps, and other departments to deliver cohesive solutions.
•    Translate business needs into technical plans and roadmaps.
•    Communicate progress, risks, and opportunities to executive leadership.
 
Process & Quality Improvement
•    Champion agile methodologies and iterative development practices.
•    Refine development workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
•    Promote engineering excellence through code reviews, documentation, and metrics.

Qualifications
•    10+ years of experience in software engineering, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
•    Proven success in leading engineering teams through growth and transformation.
•    Strong understanding of software architecture, cloud infrastructure, and modern development practices.
•    Experience with technologies such as Python, AWS, Docker, React, PostgreSQL, and RabbitMQ.
•    Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
 
Preferred Qualifications
•    Experience in hospitality and lodging industry.
•    Familiarity with both legacy systems and modern cloud-native architectures.
•    Background in organizational change and scaling engineering teams.
•    Experience integrating with external hardware components or embedded systems.

SONIFI pays a competitive salary for this role based on a variety of factors including location, experience, education, specialty, and training. This position is also eligible for PTO, holidays, health, dental, vision, retirement plan, pet insurance, on-demand pay, and a variety of other benefits. 
 
Generally starting between $140,000 - $180,000 annually; the salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, location, experience, education, specialty, and training. This pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
